Cultural Identities

About Alejandro Sánchez, Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate

Alejandro is a second-generation Chicano. His parents, from Matamoros and Valle Hermoso, Mexico, immigrated like many to Brownsville seeking a better life. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Mexican American Studies, a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, and a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health. His interests include the intersection of multiculturalism and mental health. He is a License Professional Counselor-Associate supervised by Vanessa Villarreal, LPC-S, NCC, EMDR Certified Therapist.

Alejandro’s theoretical approach includes Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. He seeks to work from a bottom-up perspective which integrates the body and mind into one. He is also interested in Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Somatic Therapies to name a few. He prides himself on being present for his clients, helping them stay grounded, and validating their feelings.

In his spare time, Alejandro likes to play video games, specifically survival horrors like Resident Evil or Dead Space, or shooters like Call of Duty. He also likes to go to the gym and lift. Alejandro joins the Empowerment LMFT Counseling & Consulting family on a part-time basis as an associate clinician. He is bilingual and can see clients who speak Spanish.
