I’m Dr. Samantha Calvillo (she/her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and trauma therapist based in Los Angeles, offering in-person therapy in West LA and telehealth across California. I am the founder of Sábila Psychotherapy, a practice rooted in culturally responsive, research-informed care for individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, identity, and life transitions.
As a second-generation Mexican-American clinician, I deeply understand how culture, family expectations, migration histories, and systemic inequities shape mental health. Many of the clients I work with are high-functioning, insightful, and outwardly “doing fine,” while internally carrying chronic anxiety, trauma responses, or a long history of putting others’ needs before their own. I specialize in working with Latinas/os and other BIPOC individuals who are seeking healing that honors both their lived experiences and their cultural identities.
My clinical work is grounded in evidence-based, trauma-focused approaches, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM). I also integrate supportive psychotherapy, nervous-system-informed care, and psychoeducation to help clients build insight, emotional regulation, and sustainable coping skills. Therapy with me is collaborative, paced intentionally, and centered on safety, trust, and empowerment.
In addition to my private practice, I work as a clinical social worker at a hospital-based rape crisis treatment center, where I provide trauma-focused care to survivors of sexual assault and interpersonal violence. This work has profoundly shaped my clinical lens and reinforced my commitment to survivor-centered, consent-driven, and anti-oppressive care. I have extensive experience supporting clients with PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety disorders, grief, and stress-related conditions.
Clients often describe me as warm, attuned, and grounding, while also direct and thoughtful when needed. I believe therapy should be a space where you don’t have to explain or justify your cultural values, family dynamics, or survival strategies. Together, we work to untangle what no longer serves you, strengthen boundaries, and reconnect with a sense of agency and self-trust.
Sábila Psychotherapy was created to be a healing space where culture is not an afterthought—it is central to the work. If you’re looking for a therapist who balances compassion with clinical rigor, and who understands the complexity of being Latinx in today’s world, I would be honored to support you.
