Cultural Identities

About Augusto Blanco, Clinical Psychologist

I’m a clinical psychologist who works with people who want real change. Over the years, I’ve learned that what most clients truly want from therapy is to feel understood, to see measurable progress, and to have someone who can help them move from point A to point B. That’s what I aim to do in every session. My approach is direct, warm, and very motivational. I don’t believe in endless analysis that leads nowhere. I believe in building a real connection and using that relationship to help you see what’s holding you back and what tools we can practice to help you move forward.

Although I live in Argentina, most of my clients are in the United States and across different parts of the world. Working online has given me the privilege to meet people from a wide range of cultures, ethnicities, religions, and life stories. It’s taught me how to adapt to different conflicts beyond just words: to understand how personal history, language, and culture shape the way we feel and relate. Many of my clients tell me that what makes our sessions valuable is that I “get” them quickly, without them having to constantly explain things. I take that as the biggest compliment I can get, because connection is where real work starts.

My clinical background is in psychotherapy and mental health, but my passion lies in helping people grow, recover, and move forward. I’ve worked with individuals facing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, identity questions, and emotional disconnection. But what I find especially meaningful is helping people explore the roles they’ve learned to play — how we perform strength, how we hide vulnerability, and how those patterns shape our relationships. Much of my work focuses on gender — what it means to be a man or a woman today, and how social expectations can limit or hurt us. I work with men who want to understand their emotional world and build healthier connections, and with women who are tired of carrying too much emotional responsibility and want more balance and self-trust.

Gender, identity, and emotional expression are not abstract ideas for me; they’re the ground where many of our struggles take root. I’ve seen how much freedom people can gain when they start to understand the emotional rules they grew up with. For example the ones that tell men to be strong and silent, or women to be giving and accommodating. In therapy, I help you question those scripts and give you the tools to replace them with something more authentic, something that finally feels like you. Sometimes that means learning how to express anger without fear, or how to allow closeness without losing your sense of self. Other times, it’s about simply finding words for what has never been spoken before.

I’m often described as a psychologist who’s the good kind of rough. I understand that life  (and therapy) can be messy. I don’t expect my clients to be “zen masters” who never get angry or to handle every conflict like diplomats. Sometimes we’re too tired, too frustrated, or too hurt to be our best selves — and that’s okay. What matters is not perfection, but honesty. In my sessions, you can curse, vent, or say things that feel raw or unfiltered. You don’t have to watch every word or pretend you’re calm when you’re not. I want my clients to have permission to feel everything (anger, sadness, disappointment, rage) and to learn how to use those emotions in a way that protects their dignity and strength.

My goal isn’t to make people “nicer”; it’s to help them become more grounded, more real, and more capable of standing up for themselves. Sometimes that means learning how to fight the right battles: to draw boundaries, to speak up, to defend what matters, especially in a world where calmness is often mistaken for weakness. I want my clients to find the voice that says, “I deserve better,” and to trust that it’s okay to take up space. Therapy with me is about reclaiming that power not by suppressing emotions, but by learning to channel them wisely.

Because I’ve been doing this work for years, I also supervise other clinicians who consult me when they face complex cases or when they feel stuck. Supervision keeps me connected to the broader field and reminds me that therapy is both an art and a craft, one that requires constant learning, reflection, and humility. It also keeps me grounded.

Many people come to therapy unsure about what they need. They just know that something isn’t working because they feel anxious, distant, or overwhelmed, or they keep repeating the same conflicts in their relationships. If that’s you, I want you to know that therapy doesn’t have to be a long, drawn out process. When done right, it can be clear, focused, and transformative. We’ll start by understanding what’s happening, then work toward real, concrete changes in how you feel and relate. You’ll gain tools to recognize patterns, regulate your emotions, and communicate what you need. Not always perfectly, but in ways that are honest and functional.

I’m fluent in both English and Spanish, and many of my clients appreciate being able to move between the two languages. Sometimes, a single word in one language can hold more emotional truth than in the other. Working bilingually allows me to help clients express themselves more naturally, without having to translate their feelings.

At its core, therapy with me is about building a space where you can be fully seen: without judgment, without roles, without needing to perform. From that place, change becomes not only possible but inevitable. You don’t have to go through it alone. If you’re ready to understand yourself better, to create healthier relationships, and to live with more clarity and self-respect, I’d be honored to work with you.
