Cultural Identities

About Michael Montero, LMSW, LCSW

As a Puerto Rican, gay therapist raised in NYC, I bring both professional expertise and lived experience to provide a space where you can show up fully as yourself. My goal is to create a safe, affirming, and culturally responsive environment where you can feel seen, understood, and supported as you heal, grow, and step into your power.

I know that for many of us in the Latinx community, therapy hasn’t always felt accessible or culturally aligned. I’m here to change that. In our work together, we’ll explore your story with compassion, honor your identities and lived experiences, and build tools that support long-term wellness.

My background spans clinical work, advocacy, and policy. I’ve served communities both locally and internationally, including work in Mexico and Ghana, and previously served as the Director of Health Policy & Advocacy at the Latino Commission on AIDS. These experiences shape my commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural humility, especially when supporting marginalized and underrepresented communities.

I take a systems-based and intersectional approach, honoring how identity, culture, family, and environment shape who we are and how we heal. I specialize in supporting clients with:

  • Complex trauma and childhood wounds
  • Neurodivergence (ADHD, autism)
  • Racial, cultural, and bicultural identity exploration
  • Sexual health, intimacy, & LGBTQ+ identity
  • Problematic porn use & shame-based patterns
  • Executive functioning challenges

Finding the right therapist is about fit—feeling safe, welcomed, and genuinely understood. If my approach resonates, I invite you to visit my website and schedule a free 15-minute video consultation. You deserve a therapist who gets you. Together, we can work toward healing, empowerment, and deeper self-connection.

Individual therapy is $120/session and couples/family therapy is $140/session. Your PPO plan may cover 30%–80% of out-of-network therapy costs.
