About Rene Gonzalez, LMHC

I’m an online therapist for anxiety and panic attacks, specializing in helping people traumatized by childhood emotional neglect (CEN) and abuse.  And if you’ve ever opened up about your anxiety to your family, only to be told they had it so much worse growing up in (insert Latin American country here), then you know what it’s like to have your feelings minimized.  Minimization, or invalidation, doesn’t necessarily equate to emotional neglect. But when the people who are supposed to show up for us aren’t there enough, then you may have experienced emotional neglect growing up.

Anxiety, panic attacks, shame, guilt, depression, even complex-PTSD can result from this type of experience, and the risk goes up if you also experienced any form of abuse. That’s why working with a Latinx therapist can help–you need someone who understands how intertwined these experiences can be with Latino culture.

I bring my experiences as a Mexican-American person to the therapy room in order to guide my clients and help them heal. I have extensive training and experience helping Latinx clients overcome anxiety, panic attacks, and the pain of trauma. I also use my understanding of the mind-body connection to help clients address the physical side of these emotional experiences, like a rapid heart rate, muscle tension, shallow breathing, and more. I utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and other modalities to help my clients move beyond the past in order to stay present.
