I firmly believe that each of us is born with an innate capacity to grow, heal and even transform. Let’s be real though, the mere thought of flourishing can often seem out of reach due to the the weight of our past, challenges we’re navigating, or the thoughts and emotions that overwhelm us. If you’ve ever felt this way, then I’m glad you are here. Sometimes you just need someone by your side to help you untangle the knots and move through whatever is blocking your bloom.
I cultivate compassionate, curious, non-judgmental and creative space for you to tend to difficult feelings, thoughts and experiences, deepen personal insight and clarify things you may want to change in relationship to yourself or others. We can work to strengthen your capacity for grounding and resourcing so you are better prepared to navigate life’s changes and challenges. We can also celebrate your uniqueness, growth and progress towards the things you want for yourself.
Who I am
I am a proud Mexican-American of Indigenous and mixed European descent. (3rd generation on my mother side and my fathers people have been in what is now California before Mexico was even founded.) I am warm, personable, supportive, empathetic, playful and grounded. I am a dedicated practitioner of meditation, a theater artist, dancer, community organizer, and social justice activist. My personal identity journey—shaped by decolonization, ancestral connection, and resistance —forms the foundation of my anti-oppressive and liberatory approach to therapy which deeply honors your multilayered identities, experiences and autonomy. Due to my families intergenerational experiences of violence and racism in the United States, I am not fluent in Spanish but I do understand it and am on a journey or reclaiming it to heal the voice of my ancestral line. I can hold space with those who want do therapy in Spanglish or sometimes need to express in Spanish to capture how they are feeling.
How I work
In addition to talk therapy, I offer expressive, playful, creative and action-oriented approaches that engage your body, imagination and intuition. These unique methods help us uncover helpful new parts of ourselves, develop strengths, discover new perspectives and approaches to old problems and connect with our inner wisdom and internal resources.
If the idea of therapy feels weird, I get it! I show up authentically, as my whole self, so therapy can feel more normal, and I hold brave space for you to do the same. I welcome all aspects of you and honor your full experience in a relationship grounded in, warmth, acceptance, patience and curiosity rather than judgment. Reach out for a free consultation to see if we are a fit.
I am a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health.
I am supervised by Elysha Martinez, LMFT #93493. – Olivia Treviño, AMFT #145997
