Cultural Identities

About Mario Apolinar, LMFT 121233

My experience has been primarily with children and families in non-profit and county settings. I have experience working with children of all ages suffering from anxiety, depression, phobias, substance use, oppositional defiance, at risk youth for hospitalization, survivors of trauma, families experiencing big changes and parental difficulties.

Overall my work has focused in working with monolingual Spanish speaking parents/youth, multicultural families, LGBTQI self identified individuals and blended families. I am honored to work with such diverse populations. I believe each family unit has it’s own culture and many layers of uniqueness.

My current focus is working with parents of 1 or more child under the age of 18 years old. Becoming a parent has been such a blessing and yet the hardest thing I had to do in my life. Even though there are several online and in person parent groups, it can be hard to share true fears and struggles individual parents have. There can be fear of judgement or shame as to why your child may be acting a certain way. A child’s behavior can vary greatly depending on their age, development, and home environment. There is no rule book on how to be the best parent, but there are many resources and tools to help parents. Having a strong therapeutic relationship with your therapist is an important factor in growing, acknowledging your blind spots and “becoming a better parent.”
