Greetings! My name is Karen Rivera-Seda and I am a Jamaica born 1st Generation American. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who is trained in marriage, couples, and family therapy as well as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. Through building a collaborative partnership with each client, I provide support to teens (16+), college students, and adults in the areas of anxiety, grief, life transitions, Caribbean women concerns, immigrant parent concerns, and being the adult/young adult child of immigrants. I also provide support to couples in the areas of communication, interracial, premarital, pre-engagement, pre-cohabitation, and marital concerns. As an added service, I am a provider of immigration evaluations. Therapy sessions and evaluation sessions can be conducted in either English or Jamaican Patois (Patois); evaluation sessions can be conducted in other languages with the assistance of an interpreter. My approach has been described as being direct, warm, relatable and empowering. Being a 1st generation immigrant has afforded me not only firsthand experience/knowledge of some of the difficulties, challenges and fears that immigrants may face in a new country and/or while maneuvering the immigration process, but also an awareness to the importance of empathy, compassion and cultural competence being present in every interaction. It takes courage to embark on any new journey and as such I strive to provide a non-judgmental experience where each individual feels safe, supported and heard. If you are ready to take the step, I invite you to schedule a consultation call.
