About

I am Irma Candelario, a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 5 years of experience in the mental health field. As a proud Latina and first-generation American, I am deeply committed to serving the Latinx community and understand the unique cultural dynamics that can impact mental health and well-being.

I was born to immigrant parents and raised in a bilingual, bicultural household, which allows me to provide therapy in both English and Spanish. I am keenly aware of the cultural values, traditions, and challenges that Latinx individuals and families face, including issues related to immigration, acculturation, and family dynamics.

I specialize in working with adult individuals dealing with a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship conflicts, and life transitions. I have over 5 years of experience working in both inpatient and outpatient settings, which has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of mental health care. My extensive experience in addressing the mental health needs of the Latinx community includes:

Acculturation Stress: Helping clients navigate the complexities of adapting to a new culture while maintaining their cultural identity.
Family Dynamics: Addressing intergenerational conflicts and fostering healthy communication within families, particularly between first-generation individuals and their immigrant parents.
Trauma-Informed Care: Providing support for clients who have experienced trauma, with a sensitive understanding of cultural contexts.
Identity and Self-Esteem: Assisting clients in exploring their cultural identity and building self-esteem.

I employ a holistic, client-centered approach to therapy, integrating evidence-based practices with cultural sensitivity. My therapeutic modalities include:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
Narrative Therapy

I believe in empowering my clients by creating a safe and supportive space where they can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I am passionate about helping clients achieve their personal and relational goals, and I tailor my interventions to meet the unique needs of each individual.

Availability: I offer virtual therapy sessions, with flexible hours to accommodate my clients' schedules.
