What was your path to becoming a Licensed Clinical Psychologist?
I knew from a young age that my career would be people-oriented. Once I discovered psychology was my path, I devoted myself to becoming a licensed clinical psychologist. I completed clinical rotations in various settings during graduate school, including an elementary school, a substance use disorder clinic, and multiple community mental health centers that served both children and adults. Following graduate school, I worked in a children's crisis clinic. Throughout these clinical experiences, I collaborated with multiple county and state agencies, hospitals, and schools. I have enjoyed all of the settings in which I have worked. Because of these professional opportunities, I have gained knowledge of the needs of various populations, from children to elderly adults. This wide breadth of professional and personal experience has assisted in shaping my knowledge of various life stages and transitions, relationships, and human development overall.
What should someone know about working with you?
I meet each client exactly where they are in their journey. Whether a client would like to improve their mental health, address symptoms of depression or anxiety, improve relationships, learn or improve boundary-setting, assess or change behaviors, create new ways of thinking, or process current or historical life stressors and experiences, all reasons for coming to therapy are valid. I work from a holistic, nonjudgmental, and affirming perspective. Sometimes therapy can be challenging or difficult. My aim is to help clients see that, through the challenging (and often rewarding!) work of therapy, they can thrive and grow in ways they may have never thought possible. My aim is to work alongside clients at a pace that is set by them. Clients are never expected to share anything they are not comfortable with or ready to discuss. I encourage respectful collaboration during therapy sessions and empower clients to live their best lives, however they choose to define that for themselves.
How do your own core values shape your approach to care?
I believe everyone has the right to quality therapy and accessible mental health care. I deeply believe that everyone deserves (and should have!) a safe, nonjudgmental, and supportive space to discuss and process their unique life experiences and emotions. The world we live in is a beautiful but often difficult and stressful place. Everyone needs support at certain points in their life. With the proper support, I believe we can all thrive and be the best versions of ourselves, regardless of what life throws our way. Therapy is a tool that can benefit everyone if only they are courageous enough to take the first steps.
