Speaker Bio

Jessenia Ogunade is a Licensed Master Social Worker with over 29 years of experience in the social work field. She is retired from the New York City Police Department after serving 20 years of service. Her last assignment was in the Co-Response Unit where she provided mental health services and community linkages to the severely mentally ill population.
She is the owner of Larimar Counseling Services LMSW, PLLC in Middletown, NY where she specializes in the treatment of trauma for the Black and Brown law enforcement officer. Mrs. Ogunade introduces an integrative therapeutic approach in a trauma informed practice. She is trained in trauma specific modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, EFT tapping, TF-CBT, SMART, play and somatic therapies. Individual and Group sessions are offered for children, adolescents, and families. Jessenia is also trained in Crisis Intervention (CIT) and Critical Incident Stress Management.
Mrs. Ogunade is currently pursuing her PhD in International Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology with a concentration in Trauma Studies. Her research interests include global mental health, policing, developmental trauma, identity formation and spirituality.
Jessenia is a first-generation bilingual Afro-Latina woman of Dominican descent who is dedicated to bringing to the forefront the effects of inter-generational trauma to the Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) communities. She serves as a member of the Orange County Community Services Board and contracts with organizations for consulting, training, and speaking engagements. Mrs. Ogunade currently works as a consultant with the Mental Health Department in Orange County NY and RTI International with Justice Research and Policy in Law Enforcement.
During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling around the world.
