Cristal is a down to earth, unconventional, yet competent clinician with her own lived experience with mental illness. She has turned her pain into power and is transparent about her journey to healing. In her podcast “Through the Eyes of a Therapist” she demystifies therapy and therapists. Cristal Martinez Acosta is a Licensed Professional Counselor (Board Approved Supervisor) in Texas and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She has been in practice for over 10 years and her areas of expertise are Mexico/Texas biculturalism, Chicanx mental health, intergenerational trauma, anti-oppressive and trauma-informed care. She attended the University of Texas at El Paso and earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology with Honors. She attended New Mexico State University and earned her Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance with a 4.0 GPA and was awarded Outstanding Counseling Student of the Year in 2011. After suffering the effects of the non-profit industrial complex, she is on a mission to teach others anti-oppressive leadership skills and has her own private practice. She has a podcast called "Through the Eyes of a Therapist" that has been on the airwaves since 2018 and has published over 50 episodes. She also writes articles about mental health on websites (Eye on Psy Chi and Psychosocial Media).
